Field Hockey, Fall Youth Programs Register View Cart

SPR is now taking registrations for Fall Youth Field Hockey with the Saco Parks and Recreation Department.  In light of circumstances regarding COVID-19, we are following all recommendations from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and guidance from the Maine Principals Association.  We are thrilled to offer a program this season, and want to make you aware of the changes this year that will be required to offer this program in a safe manner.

SPR Youth Field Hockey Program Info 2020
Coach: Angela Bolduc
Season Dates: September 9th, 2020 through October 24th, 2020
Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
Saturdays 9:00-10:00am
Location: Saco Middle School front field
Division: Grades 3rd – 6th. We hope to resume programs for grades 1&2 in a future season.
Program Max: 16 participants – this is a finite max. Programs offered this season will be smaller to limit potential exposure to the Coronavirus.
Season Format:
1. The month of September will focus on skill development with drills and small intersquad group play.
2. While we will not participate in tournaments this season, we are tentatively planning for inter-community game play with Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach in the month of October, as long as health trends regarding COVID-19 in our area are favorable and will allow.
Season Fee: $45.00—open to Saco and Dayton residents. Dayton residents please contact the SPR Office at 283-3139 to register.
Required Equipment: sticks*, mouth guard, shin guards. Goggles are recommended but not mandatory this season with recent updates from the National Field Hockey Association.

COVID-19 Prevention Protocols
For Players:
1. Upon arrival, players will report to the coach for a health screening and temperature check. Masks will be required during the health screening process.
2. Players will utilize hand sanitizer at the health screening station before joining their team.
3. During active practice and gameplay – masks can be off for players.
4. On sidelines during games or instruction– masks must be on for players, coaches and spectators.

For Parents/Spectators:
1. Only 1 parent/spectator per player permitted for practices and games.
2. Spectators must stay on the sideline.
3. Spectators must wear masks and stay 6 feet apart.

Equipment Procedures:
1. Any shared equipment will be cleaned and sanitized
between practices using the same cleaning agents utilized in SPR summer programs.
2. Emphasis will be placed on not picking up balls with hands – which is PERFECT for field hockey skill development!
3. *Sticks are still available to sign-out for the season.
4. All sticks will be marked with the player’s name to avoid any confusion or accidental use of another player’s stick.

  • SPR Youth Field Hockey programs were originally developed in the 1970’s by Coach Sue Spath, who has assisted our program in recent years.
  • Coach Angela Bolduc will be returning to SPR for her 18th SEASON coaching youth field hockey for us!!! Thank you to Angela for her dedication to our program and growing the sport of field hockey in our area!
  • Saco Parks & Recreation is a FUNdamental Field Hockey host location through the USA Field Hockey organization.
